At emc, we use a tool called PEQ(Pre Engagement Questionnaire) which calculates the complete FQDN for Esxi Host. I provide below the image.
As per my requirement, I need to calculate the FQDN when iterator is ALPHA.
I have written the code which does exactly like the PEQ as shown in the image. Recently I got to know that PEQ is calculating wrongly.
As per the above tool PEQ if we enter values like 26, 27, we get the following output.
26 -> aa
27 -> ab
But got to know from PDMs and Field engineers that it should be like this.
26 - ba
27 - bb
Somehow I have derived the logic to calcuate as per PEQ. Please suggest whether PEQ is calculating wrongly or not.
If PEQ is calculating wrongly what is the correct one. Is there any algorithm to calculate the FQDN based on iterator type ALPHA ?
Could please provide me the algorithm details about how to calcuate FQDN if the iterator is ALPHA.
Is there any tool which calculates correctly so that while writing code I can validate FQDN against that tool ?
Please help in this regard.
I'm completely stumped.
This is a fresh installation of vCenter 6.7. The install options I use are really basic and the whole process completes successfully. It directs me to logon to the web client HTML5.
I enter the username 'administrator@vcenter.local' and the password - the system returns right back with "Invalid Credentials".
I've deleted the appliance and reinstalled it. The results are the same.
I'm attempting to diagnose this issue by checking log files. What I've found isn't clearly identifying the problem to me. I'll post the errors that appear in the websso.log file in the next post.
Hey,
back a week ago i had the issue, that i couldn't Start any VMs in my Test vCenter. I got Messages regarding Agents preventing to do so. NSX Manager was also powered off.
I tried to troubleshoot the NSX installation and thereby removed the "ESX Agent Manager" Plugin via /mob. (Bad Idea)
Then i came to the conclusion, that i could power on the machines via the ESXi itself. After that the nsx manager was reachable and the issue was resolved.
Now i cannot deploy any agents because the vCenter misses the EAM Plugin. I tried to dig deeper into the topic but failed at:
- Reregistering the Plugin via /mob (Have no Zip File to provide)
- Fixing the EAM Config as described in VMware Knowledge Base (KB2148582)
- Or Running the "firstboot.py" from CLI (python cannot find CiS Module, even when i pass it to python with -module /path/)
Path: /usr/lib/vmware-eam/firstboot/eam_firstboot.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/vmware-eam/firstboot/eam_firstboot.py", line 9, in <module>
from cis.baseCISException import BaseInstallException
ImportError: No module named 'cis'
I want to avoid reinstalling the vCenter because there are somme other VMware Products linked to the appliance...
Do you have any info for me?
Hello,
ist vCenter 6.7U3 on Windows supported on an multihomed VM ?
Hi. Our SSO Administrator account is going to expire in several weeks. Rather than go through changing it and fixing SRM,vRops, etc.can I just change the expiration in the SSO configuration page to give me another month? Thanks,,,
Hallo Team,
I'm upgrading my vCenter 6.7 to the latest version. it is a lab.
I see the following screen.
I was wondering if I have to select each or I should select the last one. If I select last one, then all other updates are included in it? or I have to read each release notes to check the right version?
I am attempting to deploy a new VCSA...Photon OS iso is uploaded to the datastore. VM is created, CD selected, Connect selected. When I start the VM, it always tries to perform a Network Boot, and fails with No boot filename received. Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No operating system found.
I can't even begin because the OS won't boot.
Please help if possible.

Hello everybody.
I can't replace SSL certificate on my vcenter.
The certificates are emitted by godaddy and I've used them in many servers, as they are eligible for *.<mydomain>.it.
I get always this unuseful message: "Error, certificate failed to replace".
I upload file ending with .cer or .pem or .crt, but nothing changes. The same for the .key file.
Any idea?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Fabrizio
I have an isolated VCSA which has no access to the Internet.
I have mounted a full patch ISO : VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-6.7.0.42100-15505668-patch-FP.iso
However when I run "software-packages stage --iso"
I get the following response:
[2020-02-05T14:53:28.036] : ISO mounted successfully
[2020-02-05T14:53:30.036] : ISO unmounted successfully
[2020-02-05T14:53:30.036] : Target patch version is not supported.
What am I missing here? Is there a trick to get this working?
I am looking to pull performance data out of vCenter/vSphere either in a report form or to put in a report form to provide for management, to show how the VMware environment is working.
Hi-
Trying to configure vcenter server to send smtp alerts using the following article, Configure Mail Sender Settings, but getting stuck at step 3 (pasted below)--i do not see a General tab under Configure for the VCenter VM. I'm probably misunderstanding, but any guidance would be a help. It's a VSphere 6.7 Essentials license, if that matters. Thanks.
The SMTP server is the DNS name or IP address of the SMTP gateway to use for sending email messages.
The sender account is the email address of the sender.
For example, mail_server@example.com.
Hi all
Sorry if this is a silly question - I have a vcenter applicance that I have not patched in a little while. (6.7.0.31000). What is the easiest way to patch it. (It does not have internet access.)
I have tried mounting the latest install iso and the latest patch iso, but it says no upgrade files found. Do I need to install all the patches back to the version 31000 or are they cumulative?
Thanks
Dave
Hi guys - may I ask for troubleshooting help with a 6.5 vCenter-appliance ?
Thats definetely not my strong area ...
Error-message: 503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http20NamedPipeServiceSpecE:0x000055e6e2f00390] _serverNamespace = / action = Allow _pipeName =/var/run/vmware/vpxd-webserver-pipe)
Some details about the history:
the user had tried to setup self-signed certificates which apparently failed and then rolled back.
Also I think the appliance filled up the disk used for logging.
What are the next steps for troubleshooting ?
Which logfiles do you need to figure out what is wrong.
What can I do to check if the ESXi-server that hosts the appliance is configured correctly ?
Thank you
Ulli
Dear Community,
We're use HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 (which has Intel Xeon CPU E5-2667 v4 in it) in our company for ESX-Hosts. So at on of these hosts, the vCenter Maschine is located. The vCenter machine has (by default) 4 Cores by 4 Sockets. The problem is, that the DL380 Gen9 has 2 Hardware CPU Sockets only. In this case, the vCenter machine virtualize 2 Sockets (becaue it has 4 Sockets). This generate more cpu load than necessary.
My misson is, I go to the ESX-01 server directly (https://esx01.foo.bar), shutdown the vCenter machine, change the CPU settings to 4 vCores by 1 Socket and start the vCenter machine again.
My question is: Can I go for it or should I do nothing on this machine? For my understanding what happend during I shutdown the vCenter machine is, the vCenter is not reachable only? Or not?
Version VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 15160138 is installed on our cluster.
Thanks Toormser
I'm trying to converge my external PSC into my vCSA, using the GUI tool. I'm running 6.7U2 on both the PSC and the vCSA, but the converge has been stuck at 8% for several days. Has anyone else run into this? My coworker ran into the same issue in his lab and I haven't been able to find anything online about it.
I deployed a Vm from template using a customization template. I made sure the Vm deployed had NIC connected when i selected finished. But after the clone, the VM came up with nic disconnected
any idea?
Hi
Vmware newbie here.
Got a 6.7 VCSA with snapshots but after a power outage my vcsa has lost its disk's/cannot mount it's partitions.
Have 3x intel NUC with VSAN active and d-switch.
I can see the VCSA on 2 ESXI hosts but cannot restore it / start it.
Can I install a fresh VCSA, but is it possible to keep all the old VCSA config? Do I need to start from scratch and re-create the VSAN/DSwitch config?
Can I export VSAN/Dswitch config from the esxi host?
