I am trying to solve a problem, We are looking to move virtual VCenter Server and DB server to a new physical datacenter without moving physical host or storage or using SRM. Anyone can help solve this problem.
Moving VCenter Server and Database Server
Client wont log in
I'm not sure where to post this so if this is the wrong area, please move it.
I'm having a problem with my vsphere 5.5 vcenter client. When I try to log in to our server it sits at "Connection..." in the lower left of the window. If I right click on the shortcut and run as a different user, the logon works fine. I ran Process Monitor but don't see anything out of the ordinary that would be causing the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? BTW, I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling but get the same result.
Will HA restart VM in case of Management Network Down?
Hi -
I would like to know how Datastore heart beat is used to facilitate HA in a Vspehere clusters.
If I have isolation response set to "leave powered on" will management network unavailability restart the Virtual machines in the cluster?
Boot From SAN question.
Can we boot from SAN for Multiple ESXi host from a single LUN?
Can we have shared ESXi hypervisor installation for multiple Host with CISCO UCS or any platform?
Can we have a single datastore with multiple ESXi hypervisors installed for more than one host?
SSO Issue - gss_acquire_cred failed?
Just had to stand up a fresh VCSA - 5.1 U2.
SSO has been configured to use secure LDAP and works fine in that I can login via the web client or with VI Client using DOMAIN\Username or Username with my domain password.
However if I check the box to "Use Windows Session Credentials" I simply get a "A general system error occurred: gss_acquire_cred failed".
Googling doesn't throw up much - would anyone have any ideas before I log a ticket please?
Thanks
Vsphere Web Client attempting to sign onto incorrect IP address
Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue that I am having please, I have a physical server running esxi with 4 virtual servers on it
3 of these are used daily in our work operations, the fourth is solely for vCenter, on this server we have all the vCentre applications installed (SSO, web client, vcenter etc)
when I attempt to log into the web client I enter the credentials and it attempts to authenticate with the following message
Failed to connect to VMware lookup Service -
https://10.1.10.14:7444/lookupservice/sdk
which is correct because... we aren't using the IP address 10.1.10.14, this server address is 10.1.10.10
as the web client is using the address https://localhost:9443/vsphere-client/
I would assume the program would point to 10.1.10.10 instead
So I have two questions arising from this
1) Can anyone tell me how to get the web client to access 10.1.10.10 instead of 10.1.10.14
2) if that's not possible if I uninstall all the vcenter applications and reinstall them will it cause users to be unable to access the other servers whilst I'm doing that?

plugins not functional after vCenter 5.5 U2 install
We recently upgraded from vCenter 5.5 U1 to vCenter 5.5 U2. I didn't notice till several days afterward that plugins in the Web Client were completely not-functional. We had the Networker plugin that has disappeared and cannot be reinstalled. I upgraded Infrastructure Navigator to the latest version and it failed. I worked with VMware support on unregistering the Infrastructure Navigator extension through the mob and redeploying the vm. The functionality from it won't reappear in the Web Client. The EMC VSI client will not show up in the Web Client and the Cisco UCS plugin will not function. These are just the plugins that I have noticed so far. When I look in the C# client I see that the plugins are there in the Available Plug-ins without any errors. All the plug-ins in the Available Plug-ins say No client side download is needed for this plug-in and I presume that is because they are all part of the Web Client and not the C# client. Additionally, the plug-ins show up in the mob. Presently, I've been working with VMware support for over two weeks with no results. Has anybody experienced a similar issue before and could you fill me in on the fix? Thanks for your help.
vCenter 5.5 Web Client shows incorrect inventory
I upgraded my vCenter to 5.5 from 5.1 and it works except the Web Client has incorrect inventory data. It is missing some VMs and has some ghost VMs that don't actually exist. There aren't any error messages that suggest the server is malfunctioning. The really strange thing is that when I connect with the vSphere Client on Windows, everything is correct there. Also Veeam shows all the correct inventory when it connects to the vCenter server. So its only the Web Client that is wrong. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas on how to force the Web Client to refresh?
edit: forgot to mention this is VCSA
Can any one help me
I deployed win7 vm through Temp when i am login in to the machine gets automatically log off screen appearing. Any one can guide me to solve the issue.

Unfortunately I couldn't find out the reason of error from this log.
After my extremely long researching I find out
that subprocess vmware-csd (creating keys and certificetes) logs into the folder C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\logs
Example of the log file (csd_000x.log) in troublefree installation:
[2015-03-16 16:30:39] [INFO] Certificate registered!!!
[2015-03-16 16:30:39] [INFO] Changes to the hosts file were successful.
[2015-03-16 16:30:39] [INFO] Changes to the hosts file were successful.
[2015-03-16 16:30:39] [INFO] Successful install of CSD protocol handler.
In my case log file ended:
[2015-03-16 16:30:39] [INFO] Certificate registered!!!
There were missing records about some modification of file hosts.
Reason:
Installer will fail, if the file hosts.bak exists there before running installation of VMware Client Integration Plugin 6.0 !
Solution:
Rename or delete file hosts.bak in folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
Good Luck.
P.S.
Deacivate any antivirus before starting the installation of VMware Client Integration Plugin 6.0
SSD read cache on vCenter 5.5 U2
OK, I've done much testing on this and it works.
Now, I have a VM with an attached iSCSI LUN. Is there any way to configure the Flash Read Cache to cache the iSCSI disk blocks?
I ask because typically our SQL Servers will use all iSCSI disks through a dedicated set of switches for backend traffic.
I would like to take advantage of the SSD Flash caching if possible.
Thanks
VCSA upgrade from 5.5 to 6.0 fails on migration step. Failed to obtain log bundle.
After spending time getting a DNS server running in the lab at home I end up stuck here. I'll probably just skip the upgrade and re-install the new version, but on the off chance there's an easy fix to this I thought I'd post it. I'm able to get the log bundle from the web admin side of my current vcsa, so I know it works. Not sure what the migration tool might be doing that prevents it from getting the logs. Not even sure why it's necessary. I've unchecked the box for performance data migration just in case that was it, but it didn't make any difference.
vCenter 5.1 backtrace host disconnection
Hi all,
Wow I can say I have had the worst experience with 5.1 upgrade.
I have never had an issue upgrading of vSphere since v3.0.2 but I guess I was bound to hit a snag eventually
I had planned to upgrade my environment of 200 hosts and 4000 virtuals from 5 to 5.1. Made sure all pre reqs were meant and then proceeded with the first vCenter which is about 60 hosts and 2000 virtuals.
SSO installed fine,
vCenter inventory service upgraded fine,
vCenter Server upgraded bummed out with the 26002 error not being able to register with inventory service. then rolled back... they should of called it completely uninstall, not roll back.
Proceeded to install again from scratch... same error.
Removed the SSL folder install worked fine but profile storage service bummed out,
Finally got the install working and the vcenter database was screwed.
so thought I would quit while I was down and rolled back the snapshot of the vcenter and asked the DBAs to restore the database.... DBAs oops we over wrote the backup and we only keep one day.... WTF!!!!
So I bite the bullet and spent 2 days without sleep and rebuilt everything from scratch. new vcenter, new database, new inventory install, new SSO install. and then attached the 60 ESXi 5 hosts.
Now everything looked to be running ok but I have an issue, the ESXi hosts will all disconnect then reconnect seconds later everytime this happens causes the vcenter to hit 100% cpu and become unresposive untill all the ESXi hosts have reconnected, this is annoying as things like vmotions etc will fail due to the disconnects.
I am getting some SSL EOF/ backtrace in the VPXD logs, I currently have my VMware TAM taking it back to the Engineers but thought I would post to see if anyone has seen this. I dont use CA certs just the standard self signed per default install.
My plan is to upgrade the Hosts to 5.1 but just want to make sure the vCenter is fine first.
I cant upload logs or anything due to the secure site But I will attach below a snippet of the errors seen when the disconnects happen. I have seen similar errors but they dont fit with what im seeing.

5.5 Update 2b to 2d - Updating via Custom
Greetings,
I have 2 vCenter servers - PROD / DR
Both are currently vCenter 5.5 2b - Windows 2008 R2
When updating to 5.5 Update 2d from 2b - I got the message that I need to upgrade via Custom Install.
I updated vCenter Server and / Web-Client / Inventory. Do I also need to update Single Sign-On?
As when I do it's requesting I chose: Standalone / High Avail or Multisite.
Which should I chose if this is the DR to another vCenter instance?

New ESXi vCenter install
New to the VMware server system, have used workstation many times before but this is a different game. Our company is moving to virtual, we purchased a new server which is now set up with ESXi5.5. I am running vSphere and working with VMware support on installing vCenter server. We have two more hosts that will be incorporated in, both running windows os (2008R2 and 2012R2) with hyper-v machines running essential services. My question is has anyone migrated hyper-v servers and was it a good process? Also, based on installing ESXi on this server (wiped out the installed os) will this have to be done on each server, causing substantial changes to our system? I understand we can move all the services/functions of each host into new VMs but does that have to be done?
Thanks,
Marc
