Could not restore vCenter 6.7.0.44100 due to missing VC-6.7.0U3h iso setup

Hi everyone,

I need help to download VC-6.7.0U3h iso file. Here is my issue.

My vCenter is broken cause by storage failure, so I try to restore vCenter using recent backup configuration.

But, I can only find VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-16046470.iso known as VC-6.7.0U3g.

Unfortunately, I've upgraded vCenter from 6.7U3b to 6.7U3h (Version: 6.7.0.44100-Build number 16275304) using VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-6.7.0.44100-16275304-patch-FP.iso and all the latest backup configuration was this newest version

So, now without VC-6.7.0U3h iso file, how can I restore my vCenter to the newest state?

Do I need to make any changes to the vcenter. We connect to vcenter with an active directory user. What did you do about this microsoft's change

Usernames with @ in LDAP vCenter integration (user@site.com@domain.com)

Hello everyone!

We are using OKTA with logins in email format (user@site.com).

As OKTA has LDAP interface, I was able to add a new identity source under Single Sign On -> Configuration. I can see users and groups.

So now we have:

username: user@site.com

and

domain: domain.com

In order to login into vCenter I have to specify username@domain, in our case, this should be something like:

user@site.com@domain.com

which is not acceptable by vCenter.

My question is: is it possible to get it working without changing usernames on OKTA/LDAP side and how to?

PS: It's wotking fine with usernames without @.

Thanks!

Clock Tolerance -Single Sign-On Token Policy

Hi,

We have few doubts on Clock Tolerance  in Vmware SSO as below

1.From our application we are calling SSO "Issue token" API and we are getting a bearer token; without any lifetime parameter input.

2.we try to validate the token using "validate" API in a guest vm

3.the clock tolerance of the setup is 10 minutes

Observation:

the token is valid when guest vm is faster than VCSA within 10 mins range

VCSA-3 p.m. IST and Guest Vm is 3.08 pm IST

the token is invalid when guest vm is slower than VCSA within 10 mins range

VCSA-3.08 p.m. IST and Guest Vm is 3.00 pm IST

How does clock tolerance works in this scenario?

Need help with an issue after reverting vCenter back to a snapshot

Hey all,

I tried to install a couple of updates for JRE on a Windows vCenter server and while it stated that the update was not applicable/needed, it is crashing the vCenter GUI with a 503 error.

I reverted it back to the snapshot of the VM and while the GUI is now back, there was a warning for perflib in the Event Logs:

"The configuration information of the performance library "perf-MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP-sqlctr11.2.5058.0.dll" for the "MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted."

Per the KB article, https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1004149?lang=en_US&queryTerm=the+functions+in+this+library+will+not+be+treated+as+trusted. I tried to run

unlodctr "servername" - this ran fine and deleted the content and tried to run lodctr servicename.ini.

It is returning an error that the ini file does not exist. Now I am getting an error

"The Open Procedure for service "MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP" in DLL "perf-MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP-sqlctr11.2.5058.0.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code."

Am I missing something here as far as the ini file is concerned? I am running both the unlodctr and lodctr command under the Sytem32 directory as an admin.

is STARTTLS on by default for SMTP alerts from VCSA?

Trying to ascertain if there is anything that needs manual configuration to allow use of STARTTLS when sending SMTP alerts to office365 connector?

I have used curl to test connectivity from VCSA Shell but I cannot see how I can configure STARTTLS?

Adding a VASA storage provider through Proxy

$

On a vCenter 6.7 I want to add a 3PAR VASA Storage provider. This is working fine when both vCenter and the 3PAR Management (VASA provider) are on the same subnet.

But now I'm on 2 different subnets and the vCenter connection need to go through a Proxy server to reach the 3PAR VASA storage provider URL.

However when adding this new Storage on vCenter the request is failing

  • in the sps.log I have a

com.vmware.vim.sms.provider.ProviderFactory - Error during the validation of the provi URL java.net.SocketTimeoutException: connect timed out

  • and if I do a tcpdump on the appliance I can see that the request goes directly to the destination without going through the proxy (which I assume is my issue)

My question is: how can I have the vSphere storage provider adding request going through the Proxy server to reach my VASA storage provider ? Any specific additional configuration to do?

On the VCS Appliance I do have my proxy server set at the Networking menu Level.

And by the way doing a manual wget to the VASA storage provider URL though the VCSA CLI goes as expected through the proxy (and reach the destination)

Thanks in advance, Nicolas

vCenter Login

Hi,

vCenter 5.5, Windows Server 2008, Physical box (dont ask, first time looking at this), rebooted the server and its now not allowing me to login to the server. not the Domain account and nor the Administrator@vSphere.local account... the fat client and weblient, cant even get to the login page for the web client, i'm getting a SSO error, 503. page unavailable, has anyone ever seen this before?

Questions: If SSO is built in, then should there be an SSO service running in services?

I can log on to the server it self, but not vCenter, is there any way of knowing what the SSO if its external?

the system is old, no documentation and no one seems to know anything...

thank you in advance

Hello All,

Does anybody have positive experience in case of transfer vCenter Postgres database from existing vCSA to newly deployed vCSA with the same DNS name and IP address?

What configuration settings will be successfully transferred and what will be lost?

Datacenter(s), Clusters, ESXi hosts, vDistributed switch(es), VMs registration, Datastores, Datastore Clusters, HA settings, DRS settings, DRS rules

Events, Tasks, Performance statistics

Global Permissions, Permissions at vCenter level and beneath

Linked mode, Domain join, Identity Sources

Any helpful information would be appreciated.

How do I uninstall VCenter and SSO without losing VMs?

$

Apparently, VMWare is very willing to help customers buy licenses for their evaluation software but if a customer decides they do not want the software VMWare will NOT help uninstall it unless the customer buys a service contract for the software they want to uninstall!

A former admin (way back) at my company installed VCenter using an "evaluation license" and created several production VM servers on it.  The evaluation license has run out long ago and we cannot access VCenter.  I want to uninstall VCenter without losing the VMs.  Can anyone help me remove VCenter without removing the VMs?  Thanks.

You cannot visit vcenter.testall.local right now because the website sent scrambled credentials that Google Chrome cannot process

Dear Friends ,

On vmware work station I had install vcenter 6.7 on windows 2012 r2.  Then I install root certificate on my desktop browser for vcenter 6.7 .

FQDN: vcenter.testall.local

After couple of weeks later I removed vcenter and installed again with same ip and FQDN name (vcenter.testall.local) . Installation was successful . But now when I am trying to connect vcenter by using google chrome browser from my desktop . I am getting following error. I guess root certificate is creating issue . Not able to understand what need to be done now ?

"Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from vcenter.testall.local (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more

NET::ERR_CERT_INVALID

vcenter.testall.local normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Google Chrome tried to connect to vcenter.testall.local this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be vcenter.testall.local, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Google Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit vcenter.testall.local right now because the website sent scrambled credentials that Google Chrome cannot process. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later."

bug: vCenter no longer sends SMTP mail notifications after update, and workaround

$

This has been around since I at least 6.5 I think (and must have been reported countless times, just did not find it).

Am on VMUG, so I can't submit a "real" bug report. Just hoping someone from VMWare picks this up and repairs it.  And also hoping it might help others.

Symptoms:

Every time one does an update of vCenter, SMTP mails/mail alerts are no longer sent.

Cause:

The fault is in a wrong update of the underlying submit.cf during the vCenter update.

Workaround:

A rather complicated workaround is mentioned here: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/54375

The easier workaround is here (screen names are from 7.0, they might have been different in earlier versions, but the process is totally identical):

  1. In vSphere Client, go to vCenter Server Settings (in the configure tab of the vsphere top level)
  2. click EDIT (right on the screen). The "Edit vCenter general settings"  screen will open.
  3. in section Mail, change Mail server to something else (may even be an invalid server, it just has to have the right format), and save
  4. click EDIT again,
  5. in section Mail, change Mail server to the correct server, and save

Mails will work again. Also, all outstanding mails will get sent immediately.

Are release notes available yet for VMware vCenter Server 6.7 Update 3h?

vCenter Email Alerts not working anymore?

$

I'm running vCenter 6.7 w/ three host also running ESXI 6.7.

I had certain alerts send me email notifications (like if a host lost power) and for whatever reason it just stopped working. For testing proposes, I'm testing an alert when a VM powers off to send me and email notification. After powering ff the VM, it has yet to send me a successful email. I'm not sure if some updates has stopped this from happening or what. Is anyone else having this issue?

I've seemed to have lost that ability to have vCenter email notifications. Like I said, it was working in the past.

I do get other mail alerts from other apps like Veeam everyday, so I know the Office 365 email address or the SMTP server isn't the issue.

What am I missing in vCenter?

Recently Migrated from VCSA 6.5 to 7 - 2 Plug-ins have a "failed" status

$

Hello,

As the title states, just migrated to VCSA 7 (have not upgraded my 6.5 hosts to 7 yet - soon though).  I have 2 failed Plug-ins - VMware vRops 6.6.1.32000 and vSphere Lifecycle Manager 6.5.0.0.  I'm wondering if this is simply because my VCSA is now 7 and can be safely ignored since it looks like both those plug-ins have a version 7 that's enabled (see pic).  Both of the failed plug-ins have the "Error downloading plug-in. Make sure that the URL is reachable and the registered thumbprint is correct." error.  I've looked through some blog posts that state to look at the /mob and make sure everything looks ok there.  All seems right, so curious as to what's going on and if this can be safely ignored or will maybe go away once I upgrade my esxi hosts to 7.

Thanks for any advice!

vCenter hard disks segments

I see 13 hard disks in the vcenter settings. Total of 280 GB is decomposed to

Right now, I have 4 nodes, with 25 VMs (including one vCenter). Creating and deleting VMs are usual.

I don't know if creating/deleting VMs leave orphan and garbage files in the vCenter hard disks.

So, is there any way to analyze disk space?
