Issues with installing the VSphere web client 6.0

I'm a noob to ESXI

I recently acquired a T610 server from the company that I work for, and I have installed ESXI 6.0 on the server to spin up several VM servers.  I've also installed the VSphere client on another remote machine, and I've discovered that some features are depreciated and to use the recommended web client.  I then discovered that I would need to download the vmware vSphere server to get the webclient tool.  I've tried installing it on my Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Server 2012 R2 vm's that I have spun up from Virtualbox.  The server installation options are different from the previous tutorials that I've seen on ESXI 5.0 and 5.5 in that the webclient is not listed, but I was able to run it straight from the media.  It shows in Programs and Features that it installed, but I have no program groups for it, and I can't configure it.

The tutorials I've seen have been for 5.0 and 5.5, and when I've tried them on 6.0, I can't get past the installation issue.

An internal error has occurred - Error #1009

Hi all,

I have installed vCenter 6.0. When I use vCenter web client I got this error:

An internal error has occurred - Error #1009.

Reloading the client is recommended, so as to clear any problems left by this error.

Click Yes to reload the vSphere Web Client?

After I reload vSphere Web client and all worked good, but this error periodically appear.

What is the reason of this issue?

How I can fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Bug Report - SSL Automation Tool SSO Password

$

Hi,

I came across an issue a while back that I thought I'd write about on my blog.

Essentially, the batch file that scripts the entire process for the SSL Automation tool from VMware does not like the equals symbol "=", if you have this in your SSO Admin password the SSL Automation Tool breaks.

As I commented in my blog, I checked the SSL Tool KB and the SSO Administrator KB page for recommendations but none of them specifically mention the problem of having "=" in your password. They report not to use other invalid characters but not this one for some reason?

I don't know if anyone has seen it before but I am wondering what the right steps are to have some of the documentation amended for anyone who might get stuck with this in the future!?

no bash shell vphere 6.0

since there is no bash shell in vcenter server 6.0

how do you connect  to your Platform service controller which if I am understanding is the vsphere server to be able to get the ssl key and csr file that you have created

so that you can use VMCA to make a subordinate certificate.  I can find how to do everything after this point but not how to do this using winscp to copy it to the windows server.

This is because with no bash shell winscp does not work.

I can't seem to find anything about this this in vmware KB's  or technical whitepapers.  Sorry I'm new to vmware and having lots of fun figuring out how they hid there info.

issues with Web Client permissions (vsphere 6)

Hi

I have installed vCenter Server 6.0 for a customer today, which completed fine - however  I now have issues getting permissions i vCenter Web Client - even when using the SSO administrator login.

I can manage the environment from the legacy vSphere Client, however when logging into the Web Client i get the "You do not have permission to view this object or this object does not exist". and this even goes for the SSO administrator login. I cannot add global permissions or administer roles.

see screeenshots attached.

anyone had this issue before? and maybe a solution?

I’d like to know if EVC would affect performance of the vms?

Hi Guys -

I am two heterogeneous clusters and I would like to have vapps across them. I want vms to move across when needed. Will this cost performance of the vms? I have huge vms sitting, 32GB ram being the smallest machine. Many Thanks.

VM Resource Requirements for Nessus Vulnerability Scanner

$

We're getting ready to install Nessus scanners as Windows 2008 R2 Virtual Machines within our VMWare Infrastructure. The scanners will be heavily

used as we have thousands of target computers to scan.

As I understand, VM Machines use a pool of CPU/Memory resources that is shared with every other VM Machine in a Data Center, thereby competing for resources.  I've heard that a VM vulnerability scanner requires specific dedicated resources within VMWare such as "Resource Reservations," "Resource Pools," etc.

Can you give me some specific recommendations or documentation concerning these specifications?

Unable to login to vSphere Web Client - [500] SSO error: Cannot connect to the VMware Component Manager

$

Hi,

I have been testing out the latest vSphere, and have ran in to an issue with the vCenter Server Appliance.

I was able to access it via its web address as well as by the vSphere Client but after I rebooted the host that it was running on I can no longer access it.

This is for both the web address and client.

When I go to the address i get the usual certificate warning but after that I get:

A server error occurred.

[500] SSO error: Cannot connect to the VMware Component Manager

The vCenter Server Appliance is a virtual instance on the host.

I am able to connect directly to the host and the VM is running, as I can open the console session to it.

All this occurred after I rebooted the host to complete the install of the Mega RAID CLI and LSI Provider .VIB's

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Marcus

State of new VM and OS Customisation

$

Hi,

is there any way to find out (programmatically) if a VM has successfully applied the OS Customisation?

I am writing a PowerShell workflow to deploy new VMs from a template, apply the OS Customisation and then I need to do more stuff. Instead of pinging or something like that (which won't be reliable), I'd rather use something built in to VMware.

Azure has a great concept of "PowerState = Provisioning". VMware VMs go straight to "PoweredOn".

Cheers

Installation of component VCSServiceManager failed for vCenter 6.0

Hi

When installing vcenter 6.0 i get the below errors; I see that there are solutions on the vcenter release notes page -https://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere6/doc/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-60-release-notes.html they are not working for me.

Error 1:

An error occured while starting invsvc.

VMWARE workaround: Workaround: Use the IP address or the host name of the database server to create a DSN.

Does not work for me, i use the full hostname on my DSN

Error 2:

Installation of component VCSServiceManager failed with error code '1603'. Check the logs for more details.

VMWARE Workaround: Before you install VMware vCenter Server 6.0.0, make sure the IPv4 stack is installed. If the command netsh interface ipv4 show interfaces results in a message: The request is not supported., the IPv4 stack has been uninstalled and should be reinstalled. To reinstall the IPv4 stack, run the netsh interface ipv4 install command and reboot the machine.

I don't get the error the request is not supported. No errors at all. Even if i uninstall the ipv4 stack and install it again, problem still persists.

or

VMWARE Workaround: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2113068

My DSN sql server connection string dont have a trailing white space, and i even changed the DSN name, I changed the sql server connection name to the IP. Same error.

I even tried the solution provided on this site: http://christopher-technicalmusings.blogspot.com/2015/04/installing-vcenter-600-gives.html

Does not solve my problem.

Your assistance will be appreciated. Thanks

Anyone know what configuration changes need to be made to allow the Remediation to be successful? Thanks,

vCenter 5.0 get "transaction log for database 'VIM_VCDB' is full" errors

Hi.

In before i apologise for my bad English, i will try my best.

Week ago I migrated my VIM_VCDB from SQL 2005 Express to 2008 Express, due to DB size growing 4Gb (got some crashes VirctualCenter Server Service cuz of that).

From then, i get VC Server Service crashes again, but now Windows application log show "transaction log for database 'VIM_VCDB' is full" error (9002).

We have 9 hosts and 100~ VMs.

VirtualCenter Server crashing every 2-10 hours.

Application error repeating every 30m always, like 0-05, 0-35, 1-05, etc.

Recovery Mode for DB is Simple.

I made VIM_VCDB logfile size 2000 Mb.

When error appears, logfile grown to 1980~ Mb (1% free), and log_reuse_wait_desc show ACTIVE_TRANSATION.

DBCC_OPENTRAN show NO_ACTIVE_TRANSACTIONS.

After 2-3 min logfile still 1900+ Mb but with 99% free, log_reuse_wait_desc show NOTHING.

30 miutes and this all repeats.

Dont even know what to do. Can you help me?

upd.: got this transaction catched by DBCC OPENTRAN

Oldest active transaction:

    SPID (server process ID): 72

    UID (user ID) : -1

    Name          : user_transaction

    LSN           : (1865469:15906:1)

    Start time    : May 13 2015  3:04:13:890PM

    SID           : 0x010100000000000512000000

DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.

Hi there,

I have a question about the vsphere web client.

I can logon with my sso credenbtials buit there are no vcenter servers to manage and a message in the yellow bar says

One or more vcenter server systems are incompatible with the vsphere client.

vcenter.png

what I want to do is make a disk for my 2012 r2 windows server of 40 Tb, I upgraded the vm hardware vm8 to vm10 but cannot use the features cause ,

Vcenter client says only can use the features when web client is used

Can someone point me in the right direction or has a solution,  ( I migrated form 5.1 to 5.5 recently with vcenter )

vc2.png

vsphere webclient is running 5.1 how can I install webclient 5.5 and why didn`t webclient 5.5 install with the vcenter server 5.5 installation...???

Maintaining the vCenter Server Database - video

Am I being punished?

I'm setting up a vCenter 5.5 appliance. The installation went great and I was able to join AD, change the root pw and log back in with it. However, I can't log in as administrator@vsphere.local. The error is "Unable to authenticate user. Please try again." I was able to successfully change the password through the web interface, but I still can't in. I fired up ssh and generated a new pw with vdcadmintool, but I couldn't get in with it. The generated pw is hard to read because it uses 1, l, O and 0, not to mention ampersand which is documented as a disallowed character (!?!), so I generated a new one. Pretty sure I'm typing it correctly, but still no luck.

The catch 22 is that I need to log in as local admin so that I can set up the AD ldap authentication.

Any ideas? I see a lot of posts about people not being able to get in as root, but as I say, no problems for me with root.

Datastore Space Utilization - 'Other' File Types

$

Hi, All.

We have a SATA FC LUN, presented to 3 x ESX 4.1 hosts and 1 x ESXi 4.1 host (all fully patched) from an IBM DS4800 SAN. We wanted to provision some new test VMs and noticed that the provisioned space didn't add up the total of the VMs (see attached images):

1.JPG

2.JPG

The 'Performance' view is the most revealing. It shows 266GB of 'other' data on the datastore; the question is, what is it?

3.JPG

Querying the datastore via the vSphere Client, ESX console and PowerCLI reveals nothing. The totals match with the total of the provisioned VMs.

Any ideas what this could be? There are no snapshots, or large data dumps (ISOs etc) on the datastore as far as I can see.

Thanks,

Carl
